ABOUT MCSHC

The Missouri Coordinated School Health Coalition (MCSHC) is a collaborative of organizations and individuals whose primary responsibility is to assist schools in their student health and wellness initiatives. The coalition does this by promoting the use of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Whole School, Community, Child model. This model focuses on improving students’ health and their capacity to learn through families, schools, and communities working together. The model consists of ten interactive components that develop and emphasize health-related knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors. Schools work within the family and community structure to ensure optimal health and wellness for children.

Project Spotlight:

School Nurses receive training on Diabetes best practices in the school setting. We applaud and acknowledge MDHSS’ Bureau of Community Health and Wellness for spearheading this project. It partnered with a school nurse well-versed in diabetes care to review the guidelines and draft a script for the training module. The Bureau partnered with Truman University, a land-grant institution to create a fun and instructive training. Click to learn more. Or, watch a brief introductory video interview with Marge Cole, State Coordinator of Student Health explaining the initiative.
